| | Born to be Different (Episode 2) | | Saturday 13 March - 9:00PM
A unique seven year television project, Born to Be Different provides a frank and intimate portrait of what it's like to be a child growing up with a disability.
The programme has followed the lives of six disabled children since they were born. Now they have turned seven they can describe, in their own words, what it feels like to be different from their friends - to face the prospect of painful operations or the embarrassment of wearing a nappy in the classroom.
Even though they may not reach the same milestones as other children, they share the same dreams - one wants to play in the school football team, another to wear the same party shoes as her friends.
Some children have life threatening illnesses, others deal with prejudice and discrimination, they all have the pressure of living day to day with disability. Some families fall apart under the strain, others pull together and become stronger, but they all share an unconditional love for their children and take pride in their achievements.
In a society increasingly obsessed with money and appearance, the children in Born to Be Different remind us about the values that really matter. |
